St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® announced last night that Topeka resident, Scott Simmons is the winner of the 2020 Topeka St. Jude Dream Home®Giveaway. Raising more than $500 million for the patients and families of St. Jude, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway program is celebrating its 30th anniversary nationwide. Lucky winner Scott Simmons is among many others in the Topeka market who purchased a ticket to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude: Finding cures. Saving children.®
Simmons has purchased a ticket for the last three years because he believes in the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and that it is a “good organization to support.” Prior to his ticket being drawn, he had mentioned to his son how they probably weren’t going to win – the chances were low, “one in 7,000.” Simmons briefly left the room during the house drawing, but when his name was announced and his son told him he had won, he “thought he was joking” After learning he had won, he asked to speak with the builder of the home, Mark Boling, in order to personally thank him for his “outstanding” work in building this year’s Topeka St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house.
Located in Lauren’s Bay Estates, Mark Boling Construction constructed the house that features an estimated 3,200
square feet and an estimated value of $465,000. The house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open concept main
living space, a spacious outdoor patio, and a beautifully finished basement
The St. Jude Dream HomeGiveaway has become one of the largest single-event fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital nationwide. This is the third house to be built in this market, which has raised $2,100,000. Nationally, 600 houses have been given away and the program has raised more than $500 million for St. Jude. Because a majority of St.
Jude funding comes from individual contributors through programs like this, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what
matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation. All proceeds will help ensure that families never receive
a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child
live.
The 2020 Topeka St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway was made possible thanks to sponsors, including Mark Boling
Construction, Lakeview Development, KSNT News, and Alpha Media Topeka, as well as national sponsors Brizo, Shaw
Floors, Trane and Bosch.
Individuals who reserved a $100 ticket to win the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway or attended the open house are
eligible to win additional prizes.
